Samaná sits in the northeast of the Dominican Republic. Santa Bárbara de Samaná faces the bay, Las Terrenas lies on the north coast, and Las Galeras is a base for the eastern beaches. Your starting point shapes which tour makes sense.
Choose an inland walk to El Limón, a protected-landscape excursion to Los Haitises or a boat trip to Cayo Levantado. In whale season, Samaná Bay adds a very different reason to get out on the water.
Use our destination guides to compare access, practical questions and related tour options before requesting availability.
Cayo Levantado
Cayo Levantado is a small island in Samaná Bay, also known to many travellers as Bacardi Island. A standard beach excursion visits the public area. Access to a private resort, its pools and its facilities is a separate product and must never be assumed from the words “island tour”.
Playa Rincón
Playa Rincón is a beach destination near Las Galeras on the eastern part of the peninsula. Road-based and boat-based visits have different practical requirements. Choose according to your starting point, comfort on the water and the time you want to spend on the sand.
Las Galeras
Las Galeras is a useful base for exploring the eastern coast of Samaná. A beach-hopping itinerary may combine selected beaches, but access and the final sequence depend on the sea, route and time available. Ask for the named stops instead of booking an unspecified “all beaches” package.
Las Terrenas
Staying in Las Terrenas changes the logistics of a Samaná tour. El Limón is an inland outing; a bay excursion usually adds a road transfer to the departure harbour. Compare total door-to-door time, not only the time advertised for the main activity.
Samaná peninsula
Plan your time on the Samaná peninsula in the northeast Dominican Republic. Compare Santa Bárbara de Samaná, Las Terrenas and Las Galeras as travel bases, then choose the waterfalls, bay excursions and beach days that fit your trip.
El Limón waterfall
El Limón is an inland excursion on the Samaná peninsula. The trail, rather than just the waterfall, is a central part of the experience: uneven ground, steps and humid conditions mean it requires more effort than a beach visit.
Los Haitises National Park
Los Haitises is a protected coastal landscape reached on excursions from the Samaná Bay area. A visit combines time on the water with permitted stops ashore. The departure point matters: an itinerary from Santa Bárbara de Samaná is different from one departing Sabana de la Mar.
Whale watching in Samaná
Humpback whale watching in Samaná Bay is a seasonal activity, generally associated with mid-January through March. Exact operating dates and departures must be confirmed for your travel year. Wildlife encounters depend on the animals and sea conditions; a sighting should never be promised.
Samaná cruise port
A Samaná cruise call needs an itinerary based on the ship, tender operation and all-aboard time. Arrival at anchorage does not necessarily mean you are immediately ashore. Independent excursions should account for delays and the time needed to return to the ship.
Samaná airport transfers
Transfer planning begins with the exact airport or accommodation. Samaná El Catey (AZS), Santo Domingo (SDQ) and Punta Cana (PUJ) are different arrival points with different road journeys. Quote requests should identify the airport code, flight details, passenger count and luggage.
Samaná with kids
A family tour in Samaná should fit the youngest traveller’s needs, the adults’ comfort with boats and the real travel time from your hotel. Age alone is not enough to choose an excursion.
Three days in Samaná
Use three separate days for an inland experience, a bay excursion and a beach outing. The order should depend on where you stay and the conditions for any boat trip.
Samaná tours from Punta Cana
A Samaná excursion from Punta Cana is a different product from a tour starting on the peninsula. Compare the complete transfer route, activity time and return arrangements rather than only the attraction name.
Samaná tour prices
The useful price for a Samaná tour is the total for your actual route and group. Compare pickup, boat arrangements, guide services, admission and meals before choosing between offers.
